Tucked within the dense lanes of Shahjahanabad, the haveli at Kucha Pati Ram is part of the historic residential fabric that once defined life in the old city. Built around an internal courtyard, the house reflects the spatial patterns of Old Delhi’s traditional havelis, where domestic life unfolded through a sequence of shaded rooms, balconies, and shared open spaces.

The project involved adapting the haveli to house the Kathika Cultural Centre — a space intended to support cultural programmes, discussions, and small gatherings within the historic city.

The work began with careful documentation of the structure and its surviving architectural elements. Repairs to masonry, timber details, and internal spaces were carried out alongside essential upgrades to services so the building could accommodate its new use.

Rather than altering the character of the house, the effort was to work with its existing form. The restored haveli now functions as a cultural space within the neighbourhood, allowing the building to remain part of the everyday life of the old city while supporting contemporary cultural activity.
