Built over 150 years, predominantly by Maharaja Raghuraj Singh in 1853, Govindgarh Fort is a rare example of fortified pleasure palace architecture. It symbolises the amalgamation of British colonial architecture with Rajput aesthetics, reflecting the relationship between the rulers of Rewa and the British. The vision for the project was to develop the fort as an exclusive luxury destination, providing guests with privacy, serenity, and an immersive experience with nature. The design proposed a mix of public and private spaces, integration of indoor and outdoor landscapes, state-of-the-art spa and pool facilities, a curated specialty restaurant, luxury tented accommodation in mango orchards, and access to the fort via the lake. Adopting a heritage-led approach, the design philosophy was based on minimal intervention, retaining most of the historic fabric intact while sensitively re-purposing spaces for contemporary use.
