ATA - AISHWARYA TIPNIS ARCHITECTS

The Registry Building is a 19th-century colonial structure prominently located on the Strand in Chandernagore. Despite its historical significance, the building had fallen into severe dereliction. Under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Government of France and the Government of West Bengal, its restoration and adaptive reuse were identified as a pilot project for Indo-French heritage collaboration.

As part of the French Technical Expert Team (FTET), Aishwarya Tipnis Architects were appointed as Technical Experts.The project aims to revive the Registry Building as a vibrant cultural hub, demonstrating sustainable reuse of colonial heritage and setting a precedent for Chandernagore’s wider urban revitalisation.
