Teaching , Learning & Sharing

At Aishwarya Tipnis Architects, we see education as a two-way street where teaching is as much about sharing knowledge as it is about learning from others. Through workshops, lectures, studio collaborations, and on-site engagement, we aim to nurture curiosity, build capacity, and foster a deeper understanding of heritage, design, and sustainability. Our approach encourages dialogue across generations and disciplines, keeping the spirit of learning alive in everything we do.

Lime Workshop

Sharing and learning has been the epitome of our work and we have inculcated this into each of our projects from the very beginning. Having been privileged to work on the first hands on conservation project in the city, we were keen to disseminate the learning to a wider audience. Most conservation architects prescribe the use of lime mortar for restoration of historic buildings, however unlike cement mortar lime isn't readily available off the shelf. It has to be manufactured by a process. Secondly most architectural colleges do not include in their curriculum lime technology something we identified as a large gap causing lime to becoming an archived process. One of the most important learnings from the Kashmere Gate project was the effective and practical method we developed for the preparation of lime mortar. We were keen that other young professionals and budding architects should also get to learn about this process and we wanted to share this newly acquired knowledge with them. Thus was conceived what we called "The Lime Workshop", what started out as a small workshop for the students of Sunderdeep College of Architecture in Ghaziabad where Shilpa our contractor was teaching architecture. In this virtual world, with a facebook page and an online post, we had almost 120 applications from enthusiastic students that we had to send refusals since we couldn't accommodate any more in the small space we had. On a nice Saturday morning in March, we conducted back to back 3 batches each of almost 30 students a lecture and practical demonstration and hands-on work for lime mortar. This workshop was most successful in generating awareness about the material and process and we hope to continue this dissemination to others.
