Set high in the hills above the plains, The Lawrence School, Sanawar has grown gradually over generations. Its buildings, pathways, and open spaces reflect nearly two centuries of school life shaped by the landscape of the Himalayas and the routines of a residential campus.

Our work with the school focused on developing a heritage-led masterplan that could guide the future growth of the campus while caring for the character that defines Sanawar.

The process began with a detailed study of the existing buildings, landscape systems, and circulation across the campus. Historic structures, natural slopes, forest cover, and everyday movement patterns of students and faculty were mapped carefully to understand how the campus functions as a living environment.

Rather than proposing sweeping change, the masterplan identifies ways in which the campus can continue to evolve while remaining rooted in its setting. It establishes a framework for conservation of historic buildings, sensitive introduction of new academic and residential facilities, and improvements to movement, infrastructure, and sustainability across the site.

The intention was to support the long life of the school — allowing the campus to adapt to future needs while preserving the landscape and architectural character that generations of students recognise as Sanawar.
